THE TRANSITION SERIES: BEWARE OF THE GIBEONITES !

As Zimbabwe transitions to a new constitution and indeed a new era we all have to be vigilant. There are always agreements or arrangements that can be put in place through complacency and only benefit a few at the expense of the greater good of all Zimbabweans.

In the Bible God clearly instructs that all the inhabitants of Canaan must be eliminated or else they will be a torment to the children of Israel.

Numbers 33:55-56, But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell. Moreover it shall be that I will do to you as I thought to do to them. ’
THE TRANSITION SERIES: BEWARE OF THE GIBEONITES !
Due to complacency the leadership under Joshua forgot to enquire of The Lord when they were duped by the Gibeonites which resulted in them losing part of their inheritance and the Gebionites would become a thorn in their flesh for generations to come.

Joshua 9:3-4, But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, they worked craftily, and went and pretended to be ambassadors. And they took old sacks on their donkeys, old wineskins torn and mended,

Joshua 9:6, And they went to Joshua, to the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, “We have come from a far country; now therefore, make a covenant with us.”

Joshua 9:14-15, Then the men of Israel took some of their provisions; but they did not ask counsel of the Lord. So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them to let them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them.

Regrettably the children of Israel discovered soon after they had made a covenant with the very people they were supposed to eliminate.

A few generations later Saul in his zeal to impress the people decided that he would break the covenant with the Gibeonites and killed them. This caused a great famine in David's era.

2 Samuel 21:1-2, Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David inquired of the Lord. And the Lord answered, “ It is because of Saul and his bloodthirsty house, because he killed the Gibeonites.” So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; the children of Israel had sworn protection to them, but Saul had sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah.

COVENANTS ARE MEANT FOR LIFE AND THEREFORE THEIR EXIT CLAUSE IS ALWAYS DEATH, WHILST ALL AGREEMENTS MUST ALWAYS HAVE A CLEAR EXIT CLAUSE.

LATELY WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF NICODEMUS MEETINGS AND STAMPEDES IN OUR CORRIDORS OF POWER FROM THE EAST, WEST, NORTH AND SOUTH WANTING A PIECE OF ZIMBABWE.

TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE IN AUTHORITY THEY NEED TO BE ALERT TO THE CRAFTINESS OF THE "GIBEONITES" OF OUR TIME. LET US PRAY FOR THOSE IN AUTHORITY SO THAT THEY DO NOT ENTER INTO COVENANTS THAT WILL MAIME FUTURE GENERATIONS.

BEWARE OF THE GIBEONITES!
